Mission Thread — SEAD Sortie — VIPER-21 vs RED IADS
A single mission thread is the MBSE Architect's most persuasive artifact: it grounds requirements, interfaces, and SysML diagrams in a real operational scenario. Each step below links to the RTM, ICDs, and SysML diagrams it exercises.
Operational Concept
Two F-35As tasked to suppress an SA-21 belt enabling follow-on strike package. MPE plans, validates, signs, and loads the mission in ≤ 6 h of ATO publication.
ATO tasking received
Receives ATO line, opens VIPER-21 in MPE.
Pull mx + loadout + threats
ALIS/ODIN returns FMC tails + loadout. DCGS-AF returns 47 tracks incl. SA-21 site.
Compute fuel + threat optimized route
Generates 3 alternatives; selected alt has cumulative Pk = 0.03.
Build comm + EW plan
Assigns crypto, J-Series net, EW emitter ROE; coordinates with COMAO.
Sign + write to DTC
Signs payload with unit key, writes DTC in 71 s, two cartridges produced.
Pilot brief + walk
Briefs route, threats, ROE; cartridges hand-carried to jets.
